JOB TITLE: Lead Teacher – Alternative Provision (SEND AP Change Programme)
Contract: Fixed Term to 31st August 2025
Hours: 15 per week
Salary: £37,336 - £39,186 pro rata

We are pleased to be advertising the role of Lead Teacher – Alternative Provision (SEND AP Change Programme) within the Children & Families Services Directorate. We are offering this as a fixed term contract or secondment/development opportunity for the right person.
We are looking for an experienced education professional who can lead the drive for cohesive and ambitious inclusive mainstream education offer for all children across Rutland schools and early years settings. The postholder will work in partnership with the sector to implement and embed a graduated approach to alternative provision which aims to maximise the ambition for children and young people to be educated in their local area.
About you:
• Qualified teacher or have significant experience of recent working in an education setting.
• You will be able to demonstrate an ambition for all children to be educated within an inclusive environment which can be adapted to reflect individual needs, or reasonable adjustments made where more specialist approaches are required.
• You recognise the importance of working collaboratively with other agencies and understand the value of inclusive mainstream approaches to supporting for children with Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities or who are vulnerable to their missing education.
About the role
• This post is being offered initially as a 15 hour fixed term contract or secondment over the academic year 2024-25, ending 31st August 2025,
• It aims to contribute to the effective delivery of the Change Programme which has been commissioned by DfE and is led by Rutland CC.
The successful candidate will be working alongside another Lead Teacher who is currently in role for the academic year and, together, will undertake a full review of the provision which is already on offer within Rutland schools and early years settings and the inclusive mainstream practice that is evident, identifying where good practice can be shared. The Lead Teachers will also be ensuring schools and settings are confident in the reasonable adjustments that can be made, and work in partnership with the education sector to agree and embed a graduated response to the alternative provision offered within mainstream education. The Teachers will also lead on the delivery of capital projects, supporting inclusive approaches where Alternative Provision is an intervention not a destination.
The successful applicant for this post will be subject to an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The costs for the DBS are paid by us.
