About the role
The role will work across a range of projects, including physical and digital events, and with a variety of stakeholders and partners including researchers, cultural institutions, festivals, universities and the public. The post holder will work as part of a team to maximise the effectiveness of the public engagement programme and will be expected to share best practice, ideas and learning.
Public Engagement Officer - Events will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality engagement events that connect the organization with diverse audiences. The role involves planning, coordinating, and evaluating a range of events, ensuring they are engaging, accessible, and aligned with the organization’s objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and event partners to enhance public understanding and participation in the organization’s work.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and deliver a strategic program of public engagement events, both online and in-person.
2. Plan and manage event logistics, including venue selection, speaker coordination, audience outreach, and budgeting.
3. Collaborate with colleagues to design engaging content that effectively communicates key messages.
4. Work with the communications team to promote events through social media, websites, and other channels.
5. Engage with external partners, stakeholders, and sponsors to maximize event impact and outreach.
6. Evaluate events using feedback, data collection, and analysis to assess effectiveness and inform future planning.
7. Ensure events are inclusive, accessible, and tailored to diverse audiences.
8. Manage relationships with suppliers, venues, and contractors to ensure smooth event delivery.
9. Support the development of innovative event formats and approaches to enhance public engagement.
10. Maintain event records and reports for internal and external reporting requirements.
11. Proven experience in event planning and delivery, preferably in a public engagement, outreach, or communications role.
12. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously.
13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
14. Experience in working with external partners, sponsors, and suppliers.
15. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
16. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
17. Proficiency in using event management software and digital communication tools.
18. Commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and audience engagement.
19. Experience in the non-profit, educational, research, or cultural sector. Familiarity with evaluation methods for assessing event impact and engagement.
20. Knowledge of marketing and promotional techniques to increase event visibility.
21. Experience in budgeting and financial management of events.
