About The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for a technician with a live events background and passion for learning to become a key member of a dedicated team, working in a vibrant and varied higher education environment.
Applications are invited from candidates for this permanent full time (36.5 hours per week) post in the School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures (SCAPVC). Applications from those wishing to job share or work part time will be considered.
As Technician, the successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient day to day installation, operation, and maintenance of much of SCAPVC’s equipment in its specialist areas, crucial to the delivery of practice-based course-work and wider event support.
By mentoring undergraduate students, the post holder will be offering training in valuable transferable skills. The post holder will liaise with students and teaching staff to discuss the feasibility and the development of a wide range of projects, offering support and training where necessary, and ensuring the relevant spaces and equipment are available for rehearsals and presentations. The post holder will work closely with the Technical Supervisor regarding any maintenance, operational or development issues, the upkeep of consumable stock and the development of specialist areas and equipment.
Significant entertainment industry experience is required, as well as the ability to work independently and communicate well with designers and artists concerning the planning, installation and operation of a range of performance media. A sound technical background in live production arts is crucial. Design experience is advantageous. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
