Job overview
We are pleased to offer an opportunity for a Band 8c Departmental Lead Highly Specialised Scientist / Neurophysiologist at the Royal London Hospital.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and overall performance of our neurophysiology service, working closely with the operational Service Manager. You will collaborate with our Consultant and management team to provide strategic leadership and direction, ensuring the continuous improvement and development of services.
We are looking for an individual who is flexible, proactive, and effective in managing both their own workload and that of their team. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills will be essential to support the achievement of performance targets.

Main duties of the job
1. Accountable for the management, organisation and coordination of an efficient and patient-centred neurophysiology service for adult and paediatric patients under the care of Barts Health NHS Trust, in alignment with departmental and trust strategies and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
2. Train, supervise and mentor junior scientists, physiologists and students working within the Department.
3. Conduct and analyse a variety of complex/advanced neurophysiological investigations, delivering detailed factual reports for clinicians. To have training and robust scientific background to perform independently the more complex neurophysiological investigations.
4. Oversee the research and audit physiologist activities, participate in research studies and present the findings at professional meetings.
5. Lead the development of standard operating procedures, participate in building clinical protocols, line manage the physiologists and non-clinical staff, ensure smooth running of clinical services and collaborate with clinicians to improve patient outcomes through advanced neurophysiological assessments and treatments, such as intra-operative monitoring.

Experience
* Experience of a senior role within clinical neurophysiology
* Provision of highly specialist clinical technical services within Neurophysiology
* Experience of developing/contributing to service plans, business cases and cost improvement plans
* Relevant experience of leading neurophysiology team/project/service at senior level
Skills
* Able to perform independently a wide range of advanced neurophysiological investigations.
* Able to resolve staff problems, patient complaints.
* Budgetary management.
Knowledge
* Understanding of relevant RTT and DM01 performance metrics for diagnostic services.
* Knowledge of NHS Governance Frameworks, including PSIRF.
* Experience of delivering intra-operative monitoring services.
Qualifications
* BSc Hons Clinical Physiology Neurophysiology or equivalent formal specialist training.
* AHCS /RCCP Registration or registration as a clinical scientist with HCPC.
* Trained to Consultant Clinical Scientist level or recognized equivalent level.
Other
* Ability to train groups of the same and other professional staff.
