Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Nurse Practitioner to join our team on Parry Ward, a 28-bedded general medical ward with an interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
The post holder will be expected to provide support to the Medical and Nursing staff in the provision of professional, clinical, managerial and medical support, advice and leadership, ensuring that high levels of patient care is maintained in line with professional and statutory guidelines.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will, where appropriate, provide initial assessment to patient and, with training ,work at an advanced level performing clinical procedures (such as managing PICC lines, arterial blood gases, ascetic taps) and tasks that have been previously undertaken by medical and/or technical staff.
The post holder will practice autonomously and also within a defined team / multidisciplinary team and in accordance with local guidelines and protocols to ensure patient safety needs are paramount. They will liaise with other medical and surgical specialties as necessary.
The post holder will formulate clinical decisions and treatment plans within local guidelines / protocols to manage acute and chronic illness and respond to actual and potential health problems appropriately.
The post holder will be grounded in nursing and will undertake advanced clinical practice procedures or tasks. The post holder will also provide holistic nursing care or therapeutic nursing interventions to ensure patient safety is maintained.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
1. Registered Nurse Part 1,2,12
2. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
3. Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
4. Nurse practitioner course, with completed and up to date competence in clinical assessment and history taking (or completion within 18 months of starting post)
Desirable
5. Management Qualification - NEBs, CMS, DMS etc.
6. Post-registration qualification - preferably in Specialty area
7. Recognised Leadership course
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
8. Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice
9. Competence working as a nurse practitioner in relevant specialty or achievement of competence within 18 months of starting post
10. Considerable post registration experience and also experience in relevant specialty, or equivalent clinical environment

11. Evidence of involvement in patient advocacy and complaints resolution
