Purpose of the Role
As Deputy Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all nursing, care, and domestic staff contribute to the efficient operation of the care home to the best of their abilities. You will be an integral part of a strong management team dedicated to safeguarding the well-being and safety of residents while assisting in managing the facility's daily operations. You will work closely with the Home Manager to ensure quality standards are upheld, regulations are adhered to, and a supportive environment is provided for both residents and staff. Supervision duties are an essential part of this role.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist the Care Home Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the facility.
* Provide leadership and direction to care home staff, including care assistants, nurses, and support workers.
* Assume delegated responsibilities and act as the Manager in their absence.
* Ensure that high-quality care and support are provided to residents in accordance with their individual care plans.
* Monitor the well-being of residents, assess their needs, and adjust care plans as necessary.
* Promote a person-centered approach to care, respecting residents' choices and preferences.
* Supervise, train, and mentor care home staff to ensure they are competent and adhere to best practices.
* Conduct performance appraisals, identify training needs, and assist in staff development.
* Report any incidents or concerns related to safeguarding adults to the safeguarding team.
* Act as a point of contact for staff, residents, and external parties regarding safeguarding matters, especially in the absence of the Home Manager, serving as the nominated lead for safeguarding.
* Identify and report instances of abuse in accordance with company policies and local authority guidelines.
* Ensure the care home complies with all relevant regulations, including health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding.
* Maintain effective communication with residents, their families, healthcare professionals, and external agencies.
* Ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures and that all equipment is maintained.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to resident care, staff training, and regulatory compliance.
* Promote a positive and respectful work environment.
* Oversee the safe administration and management of medications for residents in accordance with prescribed protocols.
* Stay updated on developments in healthcare and attend relevant training programs.
* Encourage residents to participate in social activities and foster a sense of community within the care home.
Skills and Experience
* Previous experience as a Deputy Home Manager.
* Ability to engage with residents to understand their needs and provide excellent care services.
* Competence in identifying referral pathways for safeguarding adults and abuse cases.
* Good working knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
* Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with external care professionals, families, visitors, and staff.
* Capacity to promote ownership of care programs by actively involving residents and their families in the development, agreement, and evaluation of care plans within the home.
