We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to lead the team on our busy Colorectal and general surgical ward. The ward specialises in caring for patients undergoing complex colorectal surgery as well as caring for emergency admissions for general surgical, urology, ENT and gynae patients. The ward plays an integral part within the trust emergency surgical pathway.
The right candidate will need to have extensive relevant clinical experience and a clear focus on ensuring patients receive specialist high quality care at all times. The role involves leading and managing a well established team as well as providing clinical expertise and working clinically on the ward.
This role is to cover maternity leave for 12 months and so a secondment or fixed term contract will be considered.
Main duties of the job
* Having continuing responsibility for the 24 hour management of the ward and delivery of patient care.
* To have responsibility for the line management of all ward based nursing and support staff.
* To promote continuous development in clinical practice and delivery of patient care, encouraging innovation, improvement and appropriate change in service delivery.
* To manage resources within agreed budget.
* To provide a suitable and stimulating learning environment for students and for the ongoing professional development of registered staff.
* To maintain communication networks at all appropriate clinical and managerial levels.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse or other registered professional within healthcare.
* ENB 998 or equivalent.
* Degree in Nursing.
* Evidence of further continued professional development.
Experience
* Relevant managerial experience at Band 6 Level or above.
* Previous experience as shift/team leader.
* Experience of teaching/supporting students, Healthcare Assistants and other qualified staff.
* Experience of participating in budget management.
Skills, abilities and knowledge
* Competency in IV drug administration and Infusion pump skills.
* Managerial and leadership ability.
* Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice.
* Knowledge of up to date nursing and NHS issues.
