In a nutshell:
Leading a team of experienced Heads of Programme Management and accountable for delivery of our largest and most complex programmes, this industry standard Programme Management role will drive end-to-end delivery of critical programmes in our £1.4bn, 3-year technology change portfolio. Working with their team and coordinating with engineering, product, business and technology senior stakeholders to provide credible delivery plans, actively managing, mitigating or resolving risks and issues and making sure the changes are landed successfully with those impacted. Programmes will be very large in scale, span multiple technical areas but likely require a technology specialism, will impact how our business or people operate and command significant financial investment. This role requires experienced, qualified hands-on leadership to safeguard the biggest of our bets and ensure the full benefits are realised.
What I am accountable for:
1. Accountability for one or more of the most significant transformational Programmes* for Sainsbury’s Technology.
2. Leading other Heads of Programme delivering tangential or interrelated programmes and maintaining overarching alignment.
3. Being the face of your programme (or group of programmes) delivery within tech and representing our programmes outwardly to stakeholders at all levels.
4. Arbiter and owner of critical programme decisions, communicating at all levels to ensure visibility and progress seeking alignment and approval where necessary.
5. Subject matter expert and key hands-on delivery lead for assigned Programme.
6. Leading the planning, execution, and closure of programmes and projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic goals working closely with engineering and critical stakeholders.
7. Achieving measurable outcomes to support business priorities and ensuring benefits are realised.
8. Ensuring the integration and management of complex programme dependencies, timelines, plans, key decisions, risks, and reporting between programmes.
9. A laser focus on risk and issue management, working with engineering to uncover risks and support mitigations, ensuring only significant risks and issues require escalation.
10. Driving efficiency of processes working closely with the PMO team to ensure all activities add value.
11. Working with Head of Tech Enablement and team and change enablement function to ensure that changes to the business / those impacted are managed seamlessly.
Programmes are defined by specific criteria relating to impacts to technology, ways of working and/or business operations.
What I need to know - Essential:
1. Relevant degree, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, PRINCE2 or equivalent qualification.
2. Extensive experience in driving end-to-end delivery of complex technology programmes and communicating results to senior leadership.
3. Significant experience with managing and resolving complex business and technology problems.
4. Highly experienced in stakeholder management at all levels.
5. Experience of delivering successfully with multiple methodologies, hybrid delivery models and agile practices such as Scrum, Big Room Planning (BRP) as well as waterfall approaches to delivery.
6. Proven experience of implementing successful and innovative delivery practices.
