Software Development Engineer, Amazon Pay Transaction Processing
The Challenge: Whole Foods Market is looking for a Software Development Engineer who is passionate and innovative and has a heart for Nourishing People and the Planet to join our newly formed Engineering Services team. This team will be tackling some of our most complex and challenging projects and will deliver innovative technical solutions to advance the retail grocery industry.

The Role: Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats, and work in a highly collaborative environment. As a Software Development Engineer, you will help tackle a diverse landscape of technical challenges. We are an early-stage initiative, and you will play an active role in translating business requirements into concrete systems, prototyping concepts, and working with technology leaders within the team and across the business.
The Work: You will design, develop, and deploy reliable distributed solutions that operate at Amazon scale. You will work with a variety of core languages and technologies including Java and AWS services. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and will have the opportunity to redefine an industry while working with different teams across Amazon and Whole Foods Market. Expertise in object-oriented design and coding skills (Java and/or C/C++ preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform).
Experience developing distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications in a 24/7 environment.
Web services and web application/services development experience.
2+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.

About the Team
AmazonPay, one of the fastest-growing businesses of Amazon, enables e-commerce websites to accept, and customers to utilize the payment information stored in their Amazon.com accounts to pay for goods and services at sites off-Amazon. AmazonPay also enables customers to manage their account preferences and see their off-Amazon transactions. Hundreds of thousands of users make millions of transactions worldwide on AmazonPay. We develop software at every level of the stack from front-end user interfaces to backend server software and everything in between.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
2. 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
3. Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
2. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
