Overview
This is a full-time position for an advanced medical assistant in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, providing outpatient care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice. Responsible for back office clinical functions. Assists Physicians and Nurses with medical examination of patients.
Responsibilities
1. Assist physicians, providers and nurses as a medical assistant in the daily care of our patients.
2. Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN.
3. Chaperons and assists during examinations, minor surgeries, office procedures and diagnostic procedures.
4. Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments.
5. Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Inventories and reorders supplies.
6. Prepares charts for the pending office appointment; creates new patient charts, checks charts for referrals and authorization prior to visit.
7. Obtains and writes referrals, when appropriately trained and directed, and schedules outside appointments with specialists.
8. Ensures that appropriate data (i.e. Labs, medical records) are available prior to the appointment.
9. Creates prenatal lab forms prior to appointment.
10. Obtains labs and clinic notes from referring Provider’s office.
11. Obtains all inpatient records and labs prior to scheduled appointment.
12. Obtains all specialty clinical notes, procedures, operative reports, and labs prior to appointment.
13. Obtains all required lab results, provider notes, and recent ultrasound reports prior to scheduled MFM ultrasound.
14. PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
15. Document all information in EMR.
16. Prepare education packets.
17. Checks EMR tasks daily.
18. Answering patient questions and concerns on the triage phone line.
19. Reviews patient lab results, discusses abnormal findings with the physician and follows up with patient regarding treatment as necessary as provided by the physician.
20. Performs other duties as assigned, according to the individual departmental needs, and within their scope of training.
Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA). Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years.
EXPERIENCE: Experience performing relevant functions in a doctor’s office preferred. Must have some working knowledge of computers. Customer service-oriented individual is required. Experience with Obstetrics, Gynecology and Urology preferred.
Copy of active certification is required upon application submission.
