Job overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to gain experience within a specialist Child and Adolescent Inpatient service. Ferndene is an acute inpatient service for young people aged 13 to 18 years experiencing a range of acute mental health difficulties, sometimes also with a learning disability.
The role of the Band 5 is to provide Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions to young people who have been admitted following onset of acute mental health difficulties. There will be opportunities to work with young people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties including psychosis, anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, autism, mood disorders, and learning disability.
In addition to providing individual-based interventions, there is also the opportunity to gain experience in facilitating therapeutic group work and community interventions to support discharge planning and young people’s recovery.
The successful applicant will work a shift pattern across seven days that allows for a meaningful work/life balance.
Main duties of the job
You will work as an autonomous practitioner, closely with AHP Assistant Practitioners and the Specialist Occupational Therapist, and alongside other AHP colleagues including Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, and the wider team of Psychologists, Medical, and Nursing colleagues.
There are opportunities to develop skills and awareness of the context of Children and Young Peoples’ Mental Health presentations and treatment approaches via accredited specialist training.
Regular formal and informal supervision and support, and opportunities for joint working is available from the Specialist Occupational Therapist and other colleagues.
Person specification
Education and Qualification
* Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification - BSC or MSC
* Registered with HCPC
* Commitment to complete fieldwork education training
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
Knowledge and Experience
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards
* Experience of working with service users and carers in successful delivery of intervention plans
* Multi-disciplinary team work experience
* Knowledge of relevant contemporary professional theories and evidence-based interventions
Skills and Competencies
* Proven ability to develop therapeutic relationships
* Effective written and communication skills
* Ability to work under pressure
* Ability to work autonomously and within a team
Additional Requirements
* Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post
