Job Summary:
CSA Group is excited to have a job opening for a Field Electrical Technologist in our Irvine, CA office (Note: Internal Title is Certifier). They will be responsible for the certification of hazardous location products located at client’s sites to ensure compliance to specific electrical safety standards. This will include travel, on-site evaluation, field testing, and making compliance decisions for these products, which can range from small batches of control panels to large complex assemblies or manufactured skids.
Responsibilities:
1. Travel to client location throughout Western United States and infrequent travel internationally to Canada and Europe. Approximately 50% of working time spent travelling locally.
2. Demonstrates a good understanding of the field evaluation or product certification process, accreditation requirements, and quality management procedures.
3. Ensures that the equipment complies with the construction requirements of the applicable standards and the NEC/CEC; identifies rationale for compliance or non-compliance.
4. Prepares findings communications, certification reports, certificates of compliance and other related CSA documentation.
5. Prepares quotation input on scope, standards, time required to complete a project. Classifies product by use, environment, and function.
6. Conducts witness test programs at manufacturer’s accredited laboratory as needed.
7. Work independently on multiple complex projects with shifting priorities.
8. Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with key clients.
Preferred Education & Experience:
9. Electrical Engineer, Associate Degree in EE or Journeyman Electrician.
10. A valid driver’s license is required.
11. 5 or more years of related experience.
12. Experience working with Authorities having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and/or with National Recognized Test Laboratories (NRTL).
13. Familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and UL Standards.
14. Hands on experience in an industrial environment.
15. Knowledge of electrical test equipment.
16. Strong written and verbal communication.
17. Good interpersonal skills and works well with members of a large team.
18. Self-motivated, client-service focused, and detail oriented.
19. Proficient with computer and tablet technology and use of MS Office applications such as Word and Excel.
20. Strong skills in problem-solving, organization, time management, and project management.
21. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, schematics, and test data.
