Control System Design Engineer (Permanent)
Location: Colchester, Essex (commutable from Ipswich, Cambridge, and Chelmsford)
Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 (depending on experience) + Benefits
Are you an experienced Control System Design Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge industrial automation and safety solutions? Our client, a leading provider of bespoke control and safety systems, is looking for a talented professional to join their team in Colchester.
About the Role:
This is a full-time, on-site role where you will be responsible for designing and developing industrial automation control and safety systems. The role includes PLC programming, electrical and systems engineering, testing, and on-site commissioning both in the UK and internationally.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Designing complex safety and control systems, including detailed layouts and wiring schematics using AutoCAD.
* Hardware and software design engineering.
* PLC Programming (Allen Bradley Rockwell, etc.).
* Reviewing project specifications and determining technical requirements.
* Developing functional design specifications and documentation.
* Designing SCADA systems and HMIs.
* Conducting system testing and validation.
* Optimizing designs through simulations and testing.
* Attending technical meetings with customers and stakeholders.
* Commissioning new systems both in the UK and worldwide.
What You Need to Succeed:
* Proficiency in AutoCAD (evidence of experience required).
* Strong PLC programming skills (Allen Bradley experience is essential).
* Hands-on experience in system, software, and hardware development.
* A degree in Control, Automation, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
* Experience in PLC/SCADA system design and development.
* Industrial communication experience (ProfiBus, Ethernet, DeviceNet).
* Experience with emulation and simulation software is a plus.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
* Willingness to travel across the UK and internationally when required.
* Rail industry knowledge is advantageous.
