We are expanding our in-house Design Team and seeking a motivatedElectrical Engineerto assist in the design and engineering of electrical systems on major Design & Build projects. The successful candidate will support the design and delivery of electrical systems across a range of design and build projects. Working closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams, they will contribute to developing compliant, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. Responsibilities include assisting in pre-construction and delivery phases, offering technical support, coordinating with internal departments, and helping resolve any design or technical issues that arise throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Contribute to the design and implementation of electrical systems for building services projects, ensuring alignment with project requirements and coordination with CDP contractors. Assist in delivering high-quality, cost-effective and sustainable electrical solutions that meet client expectations, industry standards (e.g., BS 7671, CIBSE, BSRIA, IEC, SLL), and contractual obligations. Support project delivery from concept to construction, including technical design reports, calculations, schematics, specifications, and schedules. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams - mechanical, BIM, and external contractors to produce coordinated MEP designs. Provide input during estimating and tender stages, helping define scope and review value engineering proposals. Participate in client and design team meetings, technical workshops, and contribute to the preparation of key project documents (e.g., Engineering Reports, Basis of Design). Promote sustainable design practices and advise on low-carbon solutions, regulatory compliance (e.g., Part L, BREEAM, LEED), and emerging technologies. Attend site visits as needed for surveys, inspections, and resolution of technical issues. Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, supporting business development initiatives. Mentor junior engineers and BIM technicians, contributing to knowledge sharing and personal development across the team. Support reporting and documentation for both internal and external project stakeholders. Experience & Knowledge Essential 12 years of practical experience as a Junior Electrical Design Engineer within building services. Degree in Building Services Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). NVQ Level 4 / City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or equivalent technical certification. Desirable Basic understanding of M&E systems and relevant sector standards. Working towards or holding professional membership (e.g., IET, CIBSE, EI, SLL). Progressing towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (IEng, BEng, CEng). Abilities and Skills Essential Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines and a willingness to develop project management capabilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general ICT tools. Working knowledge of AutoCAD for design and coordination tasks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with solid technical understanding. Familiarity with electrical design development, coordination, and project planning. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and professional development. Desirable Knowledge of engineering analysis and calculation software (e.g., lighting and cable calculations). Familiarity with UK regulations such as BS 7671 (Wiring Regulations). Knowledge of sustainability frameworks like BREEAM, LEED, or WELL. Experience with modular MEP design for off-site construction. Familiarity with 3D modelling and associated software tools.
