Your role with us will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside a Band 6 Nurse to apply and develop your valuable professional clinical knowledge. You will also develop your leadership skills to successfully deliver and contribute to continuous service improvements. Working in a fast moving and variable environment this essential role in the collection of blood and blood products will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients lives.
Main duties of the job
Roles are available at Milton Keynes Team, London Middlesex Team and Luton Donor Centre and Luton Team.
As a registered Nurse you will use your clinical skills and knowledge to assess donor suitability to donate, ensuring donor and product safety, in line with regulatory and governance standards.
Duties include:
1. Supporting the Sister/Charge Nurse in organising session activities to provide assurance of staff, donor and product safety deploying session staff to ensure that donor throughput is as efficient, and customer focused as possible.
2. Obtaining and maintaining proficiency in all core blood/component collection skills including venepuncture and will deploy these skills when working on session.
3. Be required to act quickly and immediately in the event of emergencies or other unexpected events on the session.Be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance, and evaluation of donor care, in line with NMC and NHSBT codes of conduct.
4. Lead by example providing guidance to the collection team to deliver excellent donor care and service, through confident clinical leadership.
5. Developing with us to lead the blood collection team.Communicate confidently, effectively, and succinctly, any clinical/ operational issues in relation to the donation session that may require escalation and action from management.
6. Ability to travel between Blood Donation Centres and community sessions is essential.

If you are shortlisted for this role, you will need to attend in person for a blood collection session tour so we can provide you with a more in-depth understanding of this role. This will then be followed by a face-to-face interview. I regret that we are unable to arrange virtual interviews or tours. Qualifications
Essential
18. Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (which must be maintained in the role).
19. Evidence of commitment to continued learning and development and application in practice.
20. Completion of training for additional clinical skills including venepuncture and Basic life support (BLS) or ability to obtain.
21. Willingness and ability to develop management, coaching and mentoring skills necessary for leading and managing a team.
22. Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
Experience
Essential
23. Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of patient safety initiatives and strategies and risk management.
24. Competence in the use of computers and electronic communication systems or expectation to develop existing skills further as the needs of the service dictate.
25. Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of good customer care and the ability to respond to the needs of service users / patients.
