Your new role
As our new Senior/Principal Power Systems Engineer, you will be part of a skilled multi-disciplinary technical team, working alongside several project managers across different teams and geographies, to deliver Client solutions in the energy sector. You will be instrumental in answering power systems queries from our district energy, energy transition, energy from waste and wind colleagues, to deliver a holistic energy approach to customers. Our team seeks to improve the efficiency and sustainability of power systems around the world and to enable the net-zero transition on the UK’s constrained grid. Our services range from feasibility studies, concept design and detailed technical analysis depending on our client needs. We also act as Owner’s Engineer for our Clients to ensure that their projects are supported across the whole life cycle.
Your key responsibilities will be:
* Power System Analysis - load flow, short circuit, harmonic analysis, dynamic & transient stability, and protection studies
* Power System Modelling – well versed with DigSilent and ETAP
* Data Analysis – analysing and interpreting simulation and test data using industry standard tools.
* Delivering Results – excellent report preparation and presentation skills
* Client/Colleague Engagement - skilled at interfacing with clients/colleagues: leading meetings, scoping opportunities, visiting sites when required, and interfacing and coordinating with project stakeholders
* Continuous Learning - maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of technical engineering codes and practices and applying these to assist our clients
* Collaboration – effectively work with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders, to ensure a holistic approach to power system planning and design

About you

These include:
* Electrical engineering degree (minimum BSc/BEng; MSc/MEng or PhD in power systems will be advantageous)
* Proficiency in DigSilent, ETAP and other power simulation software packages
* Team player and willingness to support others
* Commercial awareness and ability to generate business through existing and new workstreams
* High level of IT literacy and numeracy skills
* Ability to manage project team, delivering projects within time and budget
* Have a systematic logical approach to problem solving
* Pay strong attention to detail and demonstrate accurate work
* Highly motivated to learn on the job, interface with clients, as well as undertake training
* Willingness to travel in the UK and/or internationally if required
Other desirable skills are:
* PSCAD knowledge and modelling experience
* Scripting capability in Python, DPL and/or Fortran
* Experience in developing grid connections in accordance with transmission or distribution codes
* Due diligence and owner’s engineer experience
* Ambitions to further and grow the department as well as contribute to the success of the rest of Ramboll, both in UK and internationally
