Sports Technician
Sports, Public Services, Travel & Tourism
Salary: £24,476 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week
Reference: REC2115 | Closing date: Sunday, 23rd March 2025
The Opportunity
As our Curriculum Area Technician within the Sports department, you will play a key role in creating a dynamic and well-equipped learning environment across Sport, Esports, Public Services, and Travel and Tourism. Your work will help ensure that our students and staff have everything they need for high-quality lessons, practical sessions, and events, keeping the department running smoothly and efficiently.
Working closely with our academic staff, you will provide hands-on support for teaching sessions, practical assessments, and enrichment activities. Whether it’s setting up specialist sports equipment, preparing fitness spaces, or organising resources for Esports and Public Services, you’ll make sure everything is in place for engaging lessons.
Your role will also involve reception and operational duties, supporting our staff with the day-to-day running of the department. From assisting with stock management to ensuring all kit and equipment is maintained, you’ll play a key part in keeping things organised and well-supplied.
Health and safety will be a big focus, and you’ll be responsible for making sure all equipment and facilities meet the required standards. This includes carrying out risk assessments, keeping storerooms tidy and well-stocked, and ensuring equipment is regularly checked and rotated. You’ll also complete daily inspections of facilities, arranging repairs when needed and working with our Programme Manager to keep everything in top condition.
Beyond the technical side, you’ll get involved in organising student kits, coordinating trips to industry events, and supporting activities that give students hands-on experience. Your role will make a real difference in helping students develop practical skills, making sure they have the best resources and opportunities to succeed in their studies and future careers.
About You
For this role, we are looking for an organised and proactive individual with a passion for sport, fitness, and education. You will enjoy working in a hands-on environment, ensuring that our facilities, equipment, and learning spaces are well-maintained and ready for use. Your attention to detail, ability to work independently, and strong problem-solving skills will be key to keeping the department running smoothly.
You should have experience in a technical or operational support role, ideally within a sports, fitness, or educational setting. A good understanding of health and safety regulations, including risk assessments, will be essential, as you’ll be responsible for ensuring all equipment and facilities are safe and well-maintained. Strong organisational skills will help you manage stock, coordinate resources, and keep accurate records within the allocated budget.
As part of the role, you will be liaising with our academic staff, students, and external suppliers, so excellent communication and teamwork skills are a must. You will also have the opportunity to supervise students in technician and centre manager duties, so the ability to support and guide learners in a professional and approachable manner will be highly valued.
If you have experience working with sports equipment, Esports resources, or Public Services training materials, that would be an advantage, but most importantly, you will bring enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment. Whether you’re preparing facilities for practical sessions, managing stock levels, or supporting student activities, your role will play an important part in the success of our Sport department at Barnsley College.
