The service promotes the philosophy of self-care, self-management and the promotion of independence whilst offering assessment and rehabilitation. Rheumatology/MSK / T&O Hand services are a highly complex area of care, and the post holder will act as an autonomous professional:
To manage a defined complex caseload under supervision of a Senior Therapist / Clinical Lead and work as an autonomous practitioner using evidenced based patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To participate in research and promote a research culture within the team and rheumatology/MSK and T&O Hand services.
Dependent on level of experience, post holders may be expected to support supervision / education of junior, unregistered members of staff and Occupational Therapy students. To support students from other professional groups who work in the team and / or service.
All services require an adaptable, flexible practitioner who can plan their days accordingly adapting to frequent unpredictable changes in service demand and capacity. The post is split between the rheumatology/MSK team and the T&O Hand therapy team.
Main duties of the job
To undertake rheumatology/MSK and T&O Hand programmes of care which will be delivered by self, team members, carers and statutory agencies aimed at improving / maintaining the patient's ability to manage their condition. To apply a level of understanding of the effects of disability and provide appropriate training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the patients physical, social and work environments.

Job responsibilities
To work within the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT) guidelines Code of Ethics to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice.
To be responsible for maintaining own and supporting others with accurate and comprehensive records in line with BAOT and MPFT Trust standards of practice.
To carry out rheumatology/MSK and T&O Hand interventions appropriate to patients diagnosis in an outpatient setting and enhance patient self-efficiency.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree/Diploma in OT
* HPC registration
* Evidence of CPD
* Completion of specialist qualification or training in areas of: - Rheumatology - Trauma & Ortho Hands - MSK conditions
Skills
* Participation in ongoing training
* Willing to participate in training events to promote services.
* Willing to share/cascade relevant knowledge and skills with others.
Experience
* Demonstrate an awareness of the skills and knowledge of the multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of working with patients following illness/trauma &/or disability
* Demonstrate an awareness of responsibility and ability to organise and manage own caseload.
* Experience of working with people who have been diagnosed with a long-term condition including rheumatology/MSK and T&O Hand trauma.
* Experience of working in an outpatient setting.
