Sport Services Supervisor (Public Body)
VANRATH are assisting our client, a large, prestigious further educational organisation, in their search for an Sport Services Supervisor for a 4 month fixed term contract initially with the possibility of extension based in Belfast.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Sport Services Officer through the Sports Services Co-ordinator, the Sports Services Supervisor will be part of the team who will be responsible for the day to day supervision of Sports Services Assistants/Fitness Assistants and the provision of a service for users of Sports Centre facilities. In the absence of the Sports Services Officer and the Sports Services Co-ordinator, he/she will assume responsibility for the general operations of the Sports Centre and associated facilities as required.
Duties shall include:

Responsibility for the supervision of all sports facilities and the allocation of work to Fitness and Sports Services Assistants to ensure facilities are adequately staffed, including shift allocation for both the sports centre and pavilion if applicable. It may be required for you to take a lead role in one of the following areas :
2. Operations/health and safety
3. Marketing/promotions
4. Fitness/strength and conditioning
5. In consultation with the Sports Services Officer and as a leading member of the sports team to coordinate the planning and delivery of Sport Services/Sports Development Programmes through classes, challenges and coaching programmes for students, staff and external users of the Client's facilities.
6. To make contacts with club officials, and develop detailed plans for the provision of quality coaching and fitness programmes to meet the requirements of both clubs and individual members.
7. To take responsibility for the coordination of all induction classes/videos in both the fitness suite and the strength and conditioning room, and recruit, train and supervise any additional/casual staff required to work in this area.
8. In consultation with the Performance Services Co-Ordinator produce individual programmes (Personal training) and other proposals to meet the fitness requirements and strength and conditioning needs of clubs, individuals and outside groups.
9. To initiate and organise new business, and increase participation in this area for both Client and customer groups and individuals.
10. To assist with the promotion and marketing of Sports Services, programmes and facilities throughout the Client and the wider community to maximise recruitment and retention of members.
Requirements
Essential skills required
11. To have obtained or in the final stages of a BTEC HND qualification or equivalent in an area including or related to Physical Education/Recreation Management/Sports Coaching.
12. Fitness Instructor's Award or equivalent
13. Experience within a sports centre role supervising human and physical resources, including marketing of facilities. Promoting and delivering classes and exercise programmes including the preparation of individual programmes in fitness and strength and conditioning, in order to assist in the development of clubs and of individual performances.
14. Relevant experience in the field of sports coaching/management.
15. Knowledge of both physiological and skills development. Demonstrate organisational skills.
16. Leadership skills with experience of providing leadership to recreation and support staff.
17. Evidence of the ability to manage change
18. Ability to initiate new ideas, in step with the local requirements and current trends in sport and recreation.
19. Previous experience of risk assessment/health and safety regulations.
20. Awareness of current market place within the sport & recreation sector and evidence of a pro-active response. Access to transport and flexible working hours. Physically fit.
21. Willingness to work outside agreed shift patterns on an occasional basis.
Desirable Skills required
22. First Aid qualification. Coaching qualifications in 2 or more sporting disciplines.
23. To have obtained or in the final stages of a degree.
24. ISRM Supervisory qualification or equivalent
25. ISRM pool plant operator certificate
26. Experience of a computerised recreation management system.
27. Preparation of reports and appreciation of financial issues; both income and expenditure
28. Work related experience in marketing and social media platforms.
29. Enthusiastic with the ability to develop teamwork and encourage participation.
Remuneration
£24,248, per annum, plus shift allowance and weekend enhancements
