Home-Start South and East Belfast is recruiting for a Family Support Worker to provide practical, emotional and parenting support to families with young children through 1-1 support in families' homes. Home-Start South and East Belfast is a Family Support Organisation which has been supporting families for over 30 years. Home-Start is there for parents when they need us the most, because childhood can't wait. The Family Support Worker will join our team of staff, volunteers and trustees and will provide non-judgemental practical, emotional and parenting support to families with at least one child under 5 years. They will manage an individual caseload of families, working with families experiencing difficulties such as post-natal depression, multiple births and isolation. The family support worker will promote children's development - social, emotional, physical and educational, and will strengthen parents' ability to cope and thrive by providing emotional and practical support within the family home and wider community. Purposes of the job This post will be primarily to work with families who have not yet been allocated a Home-Visiting Volunteer, in the HSEB area. To ensure that families referred to HSEB receive home visiting and support consistent with the agreed needs of the family as recorded by initial visits and reviews and to do so within the Home-Start ethos and models of practice. To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families within the Home-Start model To ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of the schemes work. Implement good safeguarding practice in all areas of work Main Responsibilities To work with the Organiser to decide on the best service for specific families. To work with social services and any other relevant and involved agencies as appropriate to deliver best services to the families visited. To report on any incidents or observations of concern during a home visit. To ensure that Child Protection policies as they apply within Home-Start are adhered to. To respect confidentiality of the family and of HSEB To assist in keeping family files up to date with relevant information and make both verbal and written reports as required. To undertake any relevant training required of the post holder in performing their role. To undertake any training likely to progress and advance the purposes of HSEB and their specific job role. To attend any meetings, case conferences, and other events as indicated by the line manager. To assist in promoting volunteering. To assist in any fundraising and publicity initiatives for Home-Start South and East Belfast The post holder will be expected to work within the ethos of Home-Start and have high standards of practice. The need to respect confidentiality is paramount, as is a mature and flexible approach to the work. Person specification Education and qualifications Good standard of education (5 GCSEs, NVQ level 3 equivalent or higher) Employment History A minimum of 1 year experience working with families with young children Supporting families Understanding of the needs of families with young children Knowledge of parental skills and the importance of nurturing and guiding children in positive, practical ways Knowledge of current legislation and policies relating to children and families Have the ability to assess a situation without being judgemental and make decisions Be empathetic, supportive and trusting of others Working in partnership and in the wider context Knowledge of the roles of agencies providing services for children and families Special requirements Willingness to access training opportunities Car driver/owner or other adequate method of transport to meet the needs of the post Eligibility to work in the UK Post Description: This post is currently part time and temporary. The post is subject to an initial 3 month probationary period While this post does not currently qualify for Auto Enrolment the post holder after their probationary period will be entitled to join the Organisations Pension Scheme.
