The Role
Working within the Pre-Construction team, you will be a key player in the development and growth of our fibre network through the planning and design of various FTTP projects, ranging from small remote hamlets to large urban market towns.
You’ll work closely with our build, engineering, and delivery teams to deliver full fibre project designs using both Point to Point/XGSPON technology and provide all the necessary pre-construction information required for handover. You will also be responsible for the acceptance of As-built information post-construction and the accurate upkeep of our current network maps.
The successful candidate will need to be forward-thinking, enjoy solving problems, and be happy to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve our goals.
Responsibilities
1. Manage, plan, and design P2P and XGS PON networks using various techniques and methods (BT/OR PIA, mole plough, directional drilling, hard dig trench, etc.).
2. Produce detailed Low Level Designs and Bill Of Materials for internal and external build teams.
3. Produce cabinet area network plans aligning with network and design principles, including core network requirements, optical budgets, and cabinet locations within build phase budgets (CPPP).
4. Liaise with internal and external teams and other third parties as part of your role.
5. Conduct detailed non-intrusive (Over Head) surveys of existing infrastructure.
6. Deliver planning support to set targets, including premises passed, contractual milestones, and CPPP.
7. Produce designs within the project budget, highlighting required cable sizes, node locations and types, installation methods, and labeling according to our design principles.
8. Produce clear and accurate Straight Line Diagrams (SLD’s) for all fibre designs.
9. Produce and maintain accurate splice matrixes for all your designs.
10. Deliver accurate build plans using QGIS, Vetro, and Vitruvi.
11. Respond to design change requests during build while updating relevant information.
12. Accept as-built information from the field and update network maps and provision statuses of all project UPRNs.
13. Run project reports at various stages of planning to give early indications of required materials and labour for accurate stock and labour forecasting.
14. Problem-solve on the spot due to unique build methods and make relevant changes swiftly and accurately.
15. Think outside the box.
Requirements
1. University degree or equivalent in Surveying, Geography, Geology, or similar.
2. Detailed knowledge of XGSPON and point-to-point fibre network architecture.
3. Experience using CAD or GIS software.
4. Any experience of Telecoms FTTP (Fibre to the Premise) Planning and Design.
5. Ability to multi-task and prioritize across a range of processes, dealing with rapidly evolving priorities effectively with multiple build projects at different stages of planning and construction.
6. Quick to pick up new systems and processes.
7. Full UK driving licence is a must.
8. Reside or be prepared to relocate within the network area (Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, and Hampshire).

Salary: £28,000 - £36,000 per annum DOE
Role Type: Full Time/Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week
Location: Office based near Blandford Forum, Dorset. Requirement to regularly travel to build phases.
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays
