We have an exciting opportunity in Research and Innovation Services (RIS) for a Contracts Officer. This is a great role for anyone wishing to use their legal knowledge and drafting skills to support life-changing research and innovation.
The University of Bath research is helping to change the world for the better. We work in partnership to help create a healthier, more sustainable and connected future for us all. Our department supports activities across the research and innovation lifecycle from opportunity, application, award, project management, impact, knowledge exchange, reporting outcomes, commercialisation and everything in between. As a Contracts Officer with RIS, you’ll be key to supporting this work.
About the role
You will join a small team of professionals supporting the University's research contract portfolio. This role is pivotal in supporting academics and managing legal risks for the institution. To do this you need to have:
* LLB Law degree qualification as a minimum, or other relevant legal qualification e.g. LLM, CPE, SQE, LPC or CILEX, BVC, GDL or equivalent.
* Experience of working with colleagues/stakeholders at all levels of seniority, ideally in an HE environment (although this is not essential).
* High level of organisational skills to manage heavy and varied workload while remaining calm and focused.
* A friendly and approachable manner, able to give and take advice without causing or taking offence.
Examples of activities that you will be involved include:
* The review and analysis of University contractual agreements and ancillary documents
* Making informed and appropriate selections from the University’s bank of template contracts in order to prepare agreements for more straightforward contractual arrangements
* Maintaining adequate administrative records, by logging all activity on the WorkTribe contracts system including storing signed contracts appropriately.
You’ll have the chance to deepen your experience of contract law and negotiations and develop your understanding of the University sector.
About you
We are looking for someone with a legal qualification, preferably with prior knowledge and experience of University administration and policy with the excellent interpersonal skills needed to interact sensitively and appropriately with academic and other professional services colleagues (including senior colleagues), as well as manage external relationships.
This role is an excellent fit for individuals with relevant experience looking to develop their career and gain broader experience.
