Role Overview
As a rapidly expanding organisation, IPE continues to be awarded new projects, and it is imperative that we continue to grow the teams to support our workload. Graduate Electrical Design Engineers are key to the progression of our business and to support our people plan.
This exciting programme will provide the tools, support, knowledge and experience to progress into the Electrical Engineering industry with a structured view to progressing into senior technical specialist roles at IPE.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Electrical Design: Participate in the design and development of electrical systems and components for various projects. This may include creating schematics, layouts, specifications, and reports.
2. Project Support: Collaborate with Design Engineers to support ongoing projects, providing assistance in areas such as surveying, primary and secondary design, system integration, testing, and commissioning. Identify and support opportunities for cost savings, efficiency, and business improvement.
3. Documentation: Prepare and maintain project documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, and reports. Ensure that documentation meets the organisational and clients’ procedures, standards, and requirements.
4. Collaboration: Work closely with all teams, Project Managers, and key stakeholders, to ensure effective communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
5. Continuous Learning: Understand industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical and civil engineering. Actively seek opportunities for professional development.
6. Compliance: Provide support to assure all electrical designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
7. Programme: Support the Design Engineers to update the project programmes and budgets on a regular basis.
8. Technology: Use Computer-Aided Design (“CAD”) software to deliver Electrical and Civils designs.
9. Safety: Ensure all work is delivered safely and follows safety by design principles.
10. Engagement: Support the full lifecycle from engagement with new and existing clients and the supply chain to winning new works, to design delivery and handover at practical completion.
Skills and Experience:
1. Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline with, ideally, Engineering Technician or Incorporated Engineer status.
2. Have the soft skills and experience to integrate with existing team members.
3. Have an understanding of renewable energy and/or wider transmission & distribution sectors.
4. Have an understanding of railway electrification systems.
5. Knowledge of electrical design tools and software.
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
7. Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges.
8. Outstanding self-reliance, resourcefulness, initiative, flexible approach, and excellent time management.
