Heart of Kent Hospice is a specialist palliative care hospice for adults, based in Maidstone Kent. We care for people in their last year of life, and their families and loved ones.
We have a long history of providing a high-quality training placement for trainee counsellors who are in the final stage of their training and ready to practice. We are looking to recruit a group of 4 volunteer trainee counsellors. The placement will start in September 2025 (there will be some additional in-house training dates prior to commencement).
Trainee counsellors placed at the Hospice will have the opportunity to work with those bereaved and carers. The work can be emotional and challenging, but highly rewarding. You will be a part of the Family Support Team, who provide care to patients of the hospice and their families and be supervised by a senior counsellor.
Due to the high level of requests, we have for placements at the hospice we have a competitive interview process which comprises of a group interview and then a 1:1 interview for those successful at the first stage.
There are criteria which you must be able to fulfil to be considered for the placement: -
* You are a student member of BACP or equivalent
* You are in personal counselling and have undertaken at least 20 hrs of practice
* You have a signed-off “fit to practice” form from your training organisation, stating that you are ready to see clients
* You will have an appropriate certificate of professional indemnity insurance cover on commencement of a placement
* You can commit to up to 3 sessions with clients per week
* You can attend 2 hours of supervision fortnightly on a Wednesday
You must be able to prove the Right to Work / Volunteer in the UK, documents will be requested to prove this if you are successful at interview.
Applicants will be expected to volunteer within the Hospice Values (I Care, I Learn, I Own, I Improve).
