Academic Mentor – Maths, English or Science

Pay: £89 – £110 per day (dependent on experience and subject specialism)
We are partnering with a thriving secondary school in Stockport to recruit an Academic Mentor for Maths, English, or Science. The school is dedicated to achieving high standards of academic success for all pupils, with a particular focus on providing additional support for students who are struggling in key subjects. This is an exciting opportunity for those looking to gain classroom experience and play a pivotal role in raising student attainment and building confidence in core subjects.
As an Academic Mentor, you will work closely with subject teachers and the SEN team to provide targeted intervention sessions for Key Stage 3 and 4 students, supporting them with revision, topic-based learning, and preparation for upcoming exams. You will also help students who are working below expected levels or have missed significant amounts of learning, giving them the tools and skills they need to excel academically.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and deliver small group interventions or 1:1 sessions in Maths, English, or Science
* Track student progress and communicate findings with subject leaders and SENCO
* Support pupils in class with differentiated tasks, helping them engage with the curriculum
* Work with teachers to monitor student behaviour, providing mentoring and encouragement
* Facilitate after-school or lunchtime revision sessions
* Assist in exam preparation, focusing on key skills and exam techniques
* Help students develop study skills, time management, and organisational habits

Ideal Candidate:
* A degree in Maths, English, Science, or a related subject (or equivalent)
* Passion for education and improving academic outcomes for students
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate pupils
* Previous experience working with young people (e.g. tutoring, teaching assistant, youth work)
* Ability to differentiate lessons and adapt to individual learning needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
