A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join a highly experienced, multi-professional team working with people with learning disabilities in Tameside.
The post-holder will be based within the Community Learning Disability Team at Hollingworth Clinic in Tameside. We deliver high quality healthcare assessments and interventions to people with complex and challenging needs. The team comprises community nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, assistant practitioners, and psychiatry input.
Delivery of evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy assessments and interventions to adults with learning disabilities who may have complex and challenging needs. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary context with the expectation to be person-centred, creative, and innovative in meeting the communication needs of individuals whilst offering support to families and carers. The postholder will be an excellent team player who demonstrates the ability to work effectively and productively.
Key Responsibilities of the Post:
1. To undertake highly complex swallowing and communication assessments in order to diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
2. To develop hypotheses based on assessment and implement Specialist Speech & Language Therapy treatment and programmes of care and discharge appropriately.
3. To use evidence-based practice to inform clinical decision-making in relation to communication impairments and dysphagia.
Key Requirements of the Person Specification:
1. Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
2. To have completed accredited dysphagia training.
3. Previous experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities.
4. Well established knowledge of relevant national and local policies, procedures and clinical guidelines (relevant to the client group).
