About the role
At Tesco, we believe in the power of spending more time together, face to face, than apart. So, during your working week, you can expect to spend 60% of your time in one of our office locations or local sites and the rest remotely. We also recognise that life looks a little different for each of us. Some people are at the start of their careers, some want the freedom to do the things they love. Others are going through life-changing moments like becoming a carer, nearing retirement, adapting to parenthood, or something else. That’s why at Tesco, we always welcome a conversation about flexible working. So, please talk to the Hiring Manager about how they can support you.
This role sits within the Supplier to Depot stream of Supply Chain Development and Change.
As an Analyst in the team there are lots of exciting problems to solve!
You could be analysing which products need to be reduced in price to minimise waste every day, or how to automatically supply enough extra burgers and lettuces for barbecues over a hot and sunny weekend. You may be giving presentations on the newest innovation in big data analytics or engaging with suppliers to drive benefits throughout the supply chain.
The team\'s initiatives and ideas are based in data-driven insight, collaboration with Tesco colleagues and our partnership with suppliers. By measuring changes in the office, visiting stores or working with suppliers you will see the business improvement and the big benefits to everyday life for customers, colleagues and producers.
You will be responsible for
* Developing a deep understanding of how the retail industry, our end to end supply chain and store operations work and why.
* Using a combination of data and business understanding to turn data into insight, root causing issues, defining problems, crafting creative solutions and implementing them in the business.
* Reporting data accurately and turning it into useful information which has context and supporting narrative.
* Articulating the opportunity, insight, or project clearly, flexing your style to engage with empathy and conviction.
* Being responsible for a project; build engagement, influence relevant partners and deliver change in line with achievements.
* Measuring the costs & benefits associated with your work and recommending suspension/postponement of delivery if an opportunity fails to materialise or previously unknown costs become apparent.
* Maintaining & developing our suite of insight reports to give our operators and leadership visibility of how the business is performing and what we need to do to improve.
You will need
* Good eye for business and the aim to make changes to the way the company operates.
* Strong analytical and numerical skills.
* The ability to simplify sophisticated issues and implement practical solutions.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage and collaborate with other teams to deliver to objectives.
* The ability to innovate new and pragmatic solutions using your own ideas.
* Programming skills (primarily SQL but also python) however, a large proportion of our analysts join with limited SQL knowledge so the ability to learn technical skills quickly is enough.
