Job summary
We are looking to appoint a consultant in anaesthetics with an interest in:
1. General Anaesthesia and perioperative medicine
2. Management
3. Teaching
The post comprises 10 programmed activities. PAs will be dedicated to anaesthetic sessions, which may be worked flexibly throughout the week. 1 PA will be allocated to on-call. The remaining PAs will be allocated for SPA.
Main duties of the job
The post has arisen to meet the demand driven by the expansion of theatre activity and retirements.
Job Planning:
The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement between the appointee and the chief of service, that sets out a consultant's duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it includes personalobjectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives. Changes having budgetary or contractual implications would also need the agreement of the chief executive.
One half day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching during which time all routine work is suspended. All staff are expected to attend except for those providing emergency care cover and those on leave. The directorate meeting is also held at this time. It is assumed that every member of the department will play a full part in formal and informalteaching of medical and other staff, and this is recognized as part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).
CPD/ Study Leave:
All members of the Department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expected to undertake CME in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists CPD requirements.

5. FRCA or equivalent
6. Listed on GMC UK Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT in Anaesthesia at the date of the interview

9. Qualification in regional anaesthesia
