Job Description: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our outstanding special school, which provides exceptional residential care and education for 220 students aged 4 to 19. This role is pivotal in supporting our diverse student body, helping them achieve their full potential through tailored educational support and engaging learning experiences. As an HLTA, you will play a crucial role in covering lessons, providing individualized support, and working across various year groups to meet the unique needs of our students. Your contributions will be integral to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
Responsibilities:
* Lesson Coverage:Deliver engaging and effective lessons across various subjects and year groups, ensuring continuity of learning in the absence of the class teacher.
* 1:1 and Small Group Support:Provide tailored support to individual students and small groups, addressing their specific learning needs and promoting their academic and personal development.
* EYFS to Year 11:Work with students from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Year 11, adapting teaching methods to suit different age groups and learning abilities.
* Collaborative Planning:Work closely with teachers and other support staff to plan and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and differentiated instruction.
* Behaviour Management:Implement positive behaviour management strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
* Extracurricular Activities:Assist in organizing and supervising extracurricular activities, fostering students' social skills and interests.
Requirements:
* Flexibility:Ability to work across different year groups and adapt to varying educational needs and environments.
* Engagement Skills:Strong ability to engage and support students in a wide range of subjects, fostering a love for learning.
* Physical Fitness:Fit, active, and mobile to meet the physical demands of working with students who may have diverse needs.
* Personal Qualities:Good sense of humour, resilience, and a positive attitude to handle the challenges and rewards of working in a special school setting.
* Phonics Knowledge:Familiarity with Read, Write Inc and Fresh Start programs for phonics teaching is desirable.
* Makaton Knowledge:Proficiency in Makaton, a language program using signs and symbols to help people communicate, is highly desirable.
