Lead the 24 hour provision of high quality women centred care across the midwifery community services. Act as an expert resource and role model for the team within their service to support them in the delivery of effective care.
Be responsible for ensuring a good environment in which all women and families receive a high standard of care which is compassionate and takes account of their individual needs and wishes.
Demonstrate clinical leadership in the management of both low and high risk complex maternity care.
Identify and facilitate strategies for service improvement, develop initiatives and organisational change, contributing to the clinical governance and risk management agenda by ensuring best practice is evident.
Implement and follow HR policies regarding workforce management.
Be responsible for ensuring safe deployment of resources to meet and comply with professional midwifery standards, governance, quality and patient safety within the budget set.
An on-call commitment will be required in support of the safe running of the maternity service.
Main duties of the job
1. To continually act as a highly credible professional clinical leader being a strong professional role model for others to emulate at all times.
2. Be involved in the delivery of clinical care in a developmental capacity.
3. Be responsible for ensuring current practice is evidence based and continually updated.
4. Assist the Director of Midwifery, Head of Midwifery and Deputy Director of Midwifery in providing professional leadership, management and advice within the Reproductive Health Business Unit and to take professional responsibility for the designated clinical areas and services, ensuring that all teams work collaboratively to deliver integrated care.
5. Ensure midwifery workforce complies with Nursing and Midwifery Council Rules and Standards.
6. Continually monitor, evaluate and analyse the effectiveness of midwifery services.
7. To actively contribute to the strategic development of maternity services to meet both the present and future provisions in line with both Trust and national objectives.
8. To contribute to the promotion and maintenance of clinical benchmarking, ensuring sharing and development of best practice.
9. Promote a culture of working and integration of standards across the two sites.
10. To assist the Head of Midwifery in the development of policies/procedures in performance, risk management, recruitment and retention of health and safety.
11. The post holder will deputise for the Head of Midwifery as necessary.

Training & Qualifications
* Registered Midwife and First degree or equivalent in health related subject
* Evidence of CPD
* Leadership training/qualification
Experience
* Significant post registration experience including management and leadership experience, including community practice
* Ability to demonstrate experience of leading or managing a service at Band 7 level
* Experience of leading & working with patient groups
* Knowledge of budgets/financial control
* Experience with HR processes to manage sickness absence, performance, recruitment
* Knowledge of complaints management
