Title: Specialist, Merchant Applications
Reports to: Team Lead, Applications, Third Party or equivalent position
Position Overview
The Third Party Merchant Applications Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end onboarding and account maintenance processes for merchants operating through third-party payment processors. This role requires a deep understanding of third-party processing workflows, strong attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate across multiple teams to ensure timely and accurate application processing. The specialist will serve as a critical liaison between Sales Partners, Underwriting, Risk, and external processing platforms to facilitate seamless merchant onboarding and account updates.
Key Responsibilities
1. Third Party Merchant Boarding & Onboarding Support
o Oversee and facilitate merchant application processing with third-party payment providers.
o Validate merchant applications to ensure compliance with underwriting and third-party processor requirements.
o Accurately enter and review application data across multiple platforms.
o Track application approvals and follow up on outstanding requirements with Sales Partners, Underwriting, and third-party processors.
o Monitor and escalate issues related to application discrepancies, delays, or rejections.
o Ensure all merchants meet compliance and operational standards as outlined by third-party processing partners.
2. Third Party Merchant Account Maintenance & Updates
o Process and audit merchant account updates.
o Business name (DBA) and bank account (DDA) changes.
o SIC Code and MCC updates to align with processor guidelines.
o Multi-merchant registrations and PCI compliance requirements.
o 1099K updates, tax form requests, and merchant account adjustments.
o Add-on service enrollments and pricing updates for third-party merchants.
o Merchant fee modifications and discount rate adjustments.
o Liaise between internal teams and third-party processors to resolve account maintenance issues.
o Maintain accurate records of all merchant updates, ensuring compliance with processor and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
* Third Party Processing Expertise – Experience working with third-party processors, understanding their application requirements, system limitations, and compliance guidelines.
* Problem-Solving Mindset – Ability to proactively identify potential roadblocks in the application process and work with internal and external teams to resolve them.
* Strong Product & Industry Knowledge – Familiarity with merchant processing, underwriting, and risk assessment within a third-party processing environment.
* Excellent Communication & Coordination – Ability to engage with Sales Partners, Underwriting, Risk, and external payment providers to ensure smooth operations.
* Data Accuracy & Attention to Detail – Ensuring applications, updates, and maintenance requests are processed correctly and efficiently.
* Time Management & Multitasking – Capable of handling multiple applications and merchant account updates simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
