Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical leadership and support the service development for this community-based Specialist (Tier 3) CAMH Services in Somerset. The post is primarily based at Balidon Centre, Summerlands site in Yeovil and the majority of the post holder's caseload will be seeing young people from the East of the county in Yeovil and the surrounding area. The post holder will provide supervision and work alongside a CAMHS Specialty doctor (1.0 WTE). Other medical colleagues in the East are a Consultant colleague (1.0 WTE) based in Wells and Frome, an ST4 CAMHS Higher Trainee from the Health Education England South West Deanery scheme based in Wells and core trainee in Wells.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Consultant will provide Psychiatry input for children and young people who are experiencing a range of mental health problems. The CAMHS East Community Team includes a range of professionals including psychologists, nurses, social workers, family therapists, art psychotherapists, CBT therapists, mental health practitioners and support workers. The practitioners in each area are supported by an operational manager and team leader along with secretarial and administrative staff.
The post holder will contribute to cross cover medical cover arrangements across the East patch and to provide cross cover for annual and study leave for community, outreach and the inpatient consultant colleagues for the day- time rota.

Job responsibilities
The post holder would be expected to have Section 12 MHA and Approved Clinician status or be expected to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA/Approved Clinician as part of their essential duties and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed protocols.
Accountability for the direct delivery of clinical care, by providing a visible, accessible, authoritative and professional clinical leadership to the CAMHS community team in the East of the county, ensuring high standards of clinical practice.
Provide specific professional and expert clinical opinion and advice on a range of problems, including those young people with complex needs to professionals working within the CAMHS sector.
Working with other senior members of the community team, they are responsible for ensuring referrals are risk assessed and allocated to the most appropriate clinician in a timely manner.
Working with other senior members of the community team, be responsible for ensuring there is effective communication both within the team and with referring and receiving teams, including the RAFT and Liaison teams.
To promote effective multi-disciplinary team collaboration.
To work co-operatively with colleagues and to respect and value their contribution to patient care.
To maintain close relationships with GPs / primary care services.
To work closely with colleagues in Education and Children's Social Care as well as Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS), Early Intervention in Psychosis (STEP), Talking Therapies and Adult Mental Health services.
To be available to patients, families and carers, to provide information and support.
To provide cross-cover during the day time for colleagues' non-working days, annual leave and other authorized absences. There are cross cover arrangements on the East and across the county and inpatient services to ensure that there is Consultant/ AC Monday- Friday psychiatry advice and availability.
To participate in the development of arrangements to support the transition of young people into the adult mental health service.
Undertake Medical Audit and Multi-Disciplinary audit.
Fulfil the duties of the weekly timetable.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration.
* Section 12 MHA approval or will be applying for this
* AC approval or will be applying for this
* Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register for CAMHS; or within 6 months at time of application
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in child and adolescent psychiatry (Minimum 6 years training in psychiatry post residency/ foundation years)
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in child and adolescent psychiatry
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
