Commissioning Engineer
Are you experienced in overseeing the commissioning of complex systems, and how do you ensure all activities align with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements? The opportunity
At Hinkley Point C, the lifting and fuel handling equipment is primarily managed through Design, Manufacture, Install, and Commissioning (DMIC) contracts. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting DMIC contractors, ensuring that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and developing key documentation, troubleshooting emerging challenges, and overseeing commissioning activities in the field. Your expertise will help guarantee that lifting and fuel handling equipment is commissioned safely and operates as designed.

What you’ll be doing
As a Commissioning Engineer, your role will evolve throughout the lifecycle of each equipment programme, blending technical expertise with project delivery skills. You will be actively involved in the detailed planning and preparation of commissioning activities, overseeing test execution, and analysing results to ensure the Hinkley Point C units are ready for safe commercial operation. Additional roles and responsibilities include:
* Lead reviews and validation of commissioning documentation, ensuring thorough testing and system verification.
* Support the development and integration of equipment commissioning schedules within broader project and area timelines.
* Supervise and coordinate on-site activities, ensuring DMIC contract partners execute work safely and efficiently at HPC.
* Act as the intelligent customer, providing oversight and surveillance of field activities and reporting key technical findings to nuclear services and engineering teams.
* Analyse commissioning results, generating clear and concise reports that summarise key outcomes and insights.
* Provide valuable input to assist the Commissioning Manager in achieving project objectives and milestones.
* Ensure all commissioning activities comply with nuclear, environmental, and industrial safety regulations, while aligning with best practices in international safety and technical excellence.
Who you are…
To be successful in this role, we’re looking for you to hold a combination of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and strong problem-solving skills. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient commissioning of lifting and fuel handling equipment, working within a safety-driven and quality-focused environment. Your ability to collaborate across teams and communicate complex information effectively will be essential. Key requirements include:
* Comprehensive knowledge of UK regulations and legislation for lifting equipment, including LOLER.
* A strong technical background in cranes and fuel handling equipment, with hands-on experience in their commissioning and operation.
* A proven track record of working within safety-first and quality-focused cultures, ensuring best practices are upheld.
* Experience in project delivery, collaborating within integrated, cross-functional teams to achieve key milestones.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to break down complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
* Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and analytical approach to overcoming technical challenges.
* Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
