Job summary Recruitment for x1 Spinal fellow October 2025 - October 26 & 1 Spinal Fellow October 26 -October 2027 The RNOH provides a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal health care from the most acute spinal injury or complex bone tumour to orthopaedic medicine & specialist rehabilitation for chronic back pain sufferers. This broad range of neuro-musculoskeletal services is unique within the NHS. It includes the largest Spinal Deformity service in the UK, a Degenerative Spine service with four surgeons & allied professionals, and provides a surgical service for Spinal Injuries, Spinal Infection & Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression. The Fellowship is designed to provide skills and competencies above and beyond what is currently required to obtain a CCT in the relevant surgical speciality. Applicants should be experienced in Spinal Surgery. The Fellowship offers exposure to a range of Degenerative, Adult Deformity surgery & paediatric deformity surgery (with specific reference to Minimal Access techniques and Computer Navigated Spinal Surgery). The post is based predominantly at the Stanmore site; however, the successful candidate may be expected to undertake outpatient clinics in central London at our Bolsover Street outpatient department. Applicants should either have the CCT or have undertaken 1 year Spinal fellowship or close to it. Main duties of the job The Fellowship is in Spinal surgery focusing primarily on Spinal deformity. The fellow will also gain competence in computer navigated spinal surgery. He/she will be expected to develop knowledge both clinically and surgically over the year fellowship. The aim of the surgical fellowship is to prepare the successful candidate for complex spinal surgery at consultant level. The case mix of spinal surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is extensive: paediatric and adult complex spinal deformity, spinal tumours, spinal infections, low back and neck surgery and spinal trauma including osteoporotic fracture management. The fellow will also develop sufficient knowledge and leadership in order to take a leading role as a Consultant in a department dealing with complex spinal conditions and their sequel, which, with altered life style, expectations and medical advances means that spinal surgeons are expected to handle increasing complex cases. The fellow will develop the communication skills and attitudes to set them up for Consultant practice in a centre of excellence to enable them to develop their skills further and train the next generation of spinal surgeons.
