Position Overview
A Porter is an entry level position for individuals who can work safely around lab chemicals and follow GMP guidelines to safely perform duties that maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of the lab space.
II. Specific Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Proper disposal of chemical waste and broken glass drums.
• Trash removal.
• Daily sweeping and weekly mopping of lab floors
• Hand washing and proper use of industrial dishwasher to maintain supply of clean lab glassware.
• Dusting and clutter removal
• Maintain lab in an organized manner
• Other tasks as assigned
III. Essential Skills and Experience:
* Education or Equivalent: (Minimum required to perform job)
* High School Diploma or GED
* Work Experience – none
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
• Ability to work safely in a GMP lab environment.
• Ability to follow GMP and OSHA guidelines working in a lab environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Basic knowledge of lab safety and the ability to work safely with chemicals of varying potency.
• General computer literacy including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Physical Requirements:
Work Schedule: Shifts of 8 or 12 hours in duration.
Essential Physical Job Tasks:
• Data entry
o Proper labeling and documentation of chemical inventories and waste
• Laboratory Procedures
o Safely work in a busy lab environment.
o Safely handling chemicals and compounds.
o Regular cleaning of lab space is required.
• Coordination with other laboratory associates for maintaining safe environment
o Assisting with other personnel with lifting of liquid containers and all objects of greater than 50 lbs.
o Maintaining clean environment for laboratory operations.
o Use of and safe handling of glass canisters, chemicals, and other required equipment.
• Coordination in a laboratory setting
o Operating safely in a dynamic environment which includes mobile and fixed equipment and changing conditions while completing job tasks that range from simple to complex and/or multi-tasking.
Safety Considerations:
• Must wear safety glasses, or specified eye protection, in all designated areas.
• Must follow any applicable plant safety requirements.
• Must be trained in plant hazardous material procedures.
Environmental Conditions:
• Working conditions will be Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioned controlled.
