An excellent opportunity has arisen for System Engineers to join our Submarines Future Product Engineering team based in Derby. As a System Engineer you will be responsible for identifying capability requirements and managing technical interfaces, and you will be joining a small, agile team that is embedded with our customer, and works across either the breadth of the Plant, and the Defence Nuclear Enterprise. What you will be doing: You will be working with external customers and stakeholders to understand their needs and translating this into meaningful requirements for products and services across the product lifecycle. Enterprise Architecture to address identified capability gaps, maximise utility of extant capabilities, and define resource architectures capable of exhibiting these capabilities in an efficient and effective manner. Capability-based planning analysis to translate the enterprise vision and goals into current and future capabilities that help achieve those goals. Mission engineering is assumed to be out of scope of the role, but identification, decomposition, and evolution of industrial capability is in scope. Industrial capability gaps should be assessed, and opportunities identified across the programme. Requirements Definition and Management to ensure the Systems within the SoS are ‘solving the right problem rather than just solving the problem right’. Technology and standards planning to help understanding of both technology development and transition of technology into the programme. Similarly, this can be done for technical standards to aid understanding of how and when evolving standards/regulations may benefit or impede the programme. Understanding and tailoring of systems engineering lifecycle processes to new and novel projects A broad understanding of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant physical and functional characteristics would be advantageous. Application of System Thinking to the solving of complex or ambiguous problems involving multi-discipline technical teams. Elicitation, derivation, management and validation of requirements at various levels of system applicability such as Business, Product, Service, etc. Developing and managing novel system architectural definitions, preferably using a model-based approach.
