Brief Description
As part of an exciting transformation in the Eastern Region Commercial Directorate, we are looking for talented individuals to join our growing team and work alongside a range of business units and across a varied and large portfolio. We are recruiting an Assistant Commercial Manager role to join the team based in Derby working on the Midland Mainline Electrification Project. The candidate for this role will be a positive team player, who demonstrates established communication skills, with the desire to learn more and exceed in this environment. They will be required to monitor and report on commercial aspects of projects, and assist the Commercial Manager and Senior Commercial Manager in pre-contract activities and evaluating and agreeing the value of payments and variations for a variety of works throughout the programme.
Key Accountabilities
1. Assist in the measurement and evaluation of the commercial value of payments, monitoring the correct certification of works prior to authorisation in accordance with contractual obligations.
2. Assist with the reporting on all commercial aspects of allocated projects.
3. Assist in the preparation of contract specification and pre-tender documentation.
4. Assist with the general procurement/commercial management on a variety of contract categories.
5. Monitor and report on commercial aspects of projects, flagging issues at the earliest opportunity to responsible management.
6. Keep commercial records up to date in properly maintained files and subsequently archive the documents, following commercial close out.
Essential Requirements
1. Ability to work to deadlines.
2. Good problem-solving skills.
3. Basic level of commercial awareness.
4. Basic negotiation skills with ability to influence decision making.
5. Computer literate including ability to utilise in-house and external software.
Desirable Requirements
1. Able to communicate effectively and proactively, both internally and externally.
2. Membership of an appropriate professional organisation or working towards membership.
3. Working towards or educated to degree standard.
4. Experience of using electronic sourcing and/or procurement systems.
5. Experience of using Oracle Projects.
