A rare, exciting and new role has arisen in the Welsh Gender Service (WGS) within Cardiff and Vale Health Board.
The Welsh Gender Service (WGS) was established in 2019, to provide gender services to the population of Wales striving to deliver equitable and person-centred care for those needing access to gender services.
The WGS operates as part of a network involving local clinicians to ensure that care is offered closer to home, via your Local Health Board.
The role of Clinical Nurse Specialist for Endocrinology (WGS) is critical to ensuring timely access to appropriate advice and guidance for local clinicians in supporting the care of patients, providing specialist input and advice relating to the endocrinological care of patients within the service.
The role will involve working closely with the Clinical Director of the WGS as well as the wider MDT, including the WGS CNS, clinical psychologists, GPs, Medical Consultants, and administrative staff.
We are looking for a practitioner who has a passion for gender services and care, emits a strong ethos of advocacy to support our patients and service, and is a great team player and leader to work within a passionate and driven team.
Previous experience in endocrinology is desirable; however, additional training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
This role will be able to deliver with appropriate training and support:
1. Prescribing enquiries for patients transferring their care into Wales from elsewhere.
2. Advice on blood monitoring results or treatment plans for patients not captured by the remit of the Local Gender Team.
3. Advice to prescribers reporting that a patient is not progressing as required or where there are unexpected/unwelcome side effects with an existing medication or a new/emerging clinical picture.
4. Advice if a medication is discontinued or subject to a shortage.
5. Advice about sexual and reproductive health including contraception for patients on a gender pathway.
6. Advice in support of specific learning/competency requirements under the DES/LES arrangement.
7. Advice in support of any other holistic concerns or problems relating to the patients' care, working with the current Clinical Nurse Specialist to support patients in their journey.
