NES Fircroft are currently recruiting a Project Engineer (Instrumentation) on behalf of ConocoPhillips. The role will be based in the Wynyard offices. Long-term contract opportunity until at least Dec 2027. Inside IR35 contract working 37.5hrs per week as a minimum.
The ConocoPhillips Norsea Terminal, located in Teesside at the mouth of the river Tees, is a crude oil reception, processing, storage, and trans-shipment installation. The terminal also fractionates natural gas liquids into ethane, propane, and butane.

Project Instrument Engineer
Reporting to the Programme Lead, the candidate will be working within a small team of engineering professionals and will be responsible for leading and supporting the development and execution of a portfolio of projects, from front-end engineering, HAZOP, detailed design and construction, through to commissioning.
Responsibilities:
Support the Programme Projects Lead with the development and on-time execution of a portfolio of multi-discipline projects
Lead nominated projects (predominantly Instrument biased) and support other multidiscipline projects in an Instrument Project Engineer capacity
Responsible for the development and execution of projects, from definition through to front-end engineering, HAZOP, Detailed Design, Construction & Commissioning
Provide overall Project Management and liaise as necessary with those affected by the project as required
Project managing and controlling any modifications / changes through the management of change process, in compliance with site standards and current legislation
Analyse problems and provide technical input to drive appropriate and pragmatic solutions
Liaison/ interface with the relevant Technical Authority on issues and deviation request including developing technical specifications
Responsible for Project Cost Control, schedule attainment, forecasting and ensuring that the work scope is effectively and efficiently delivered
Carry out audits and readiness reviews to ensure projects are in compliance with the project delivery process and are aligned with key delivery milestones
Proactive management of stakeholders chairing project meetings and other key forums
Support the preparation of tenders and participate in bid analysis for key packages of work
Develop cost estimates including submission of formal funding requests.
Drive continuous improvement and development of the project delivery model to become best in class
Proactively participate in safety and design and construction reviews
Contribute to risks reviews and risk assessments
Attend FAT’s and provide quality assurance for construction activities
Support completions with technical review and punch listing of modifications
Support the Projects team leader and Programme Lead
Be a visible safety champion within the organisation driving standards and supporting incidents and investigations where necessary
Actively lead project completions including associated paperwork such as completion records
Represent the Company to site visitors, contractors, and suppliers as requiredQualifications and Experience:
Degree educated in Instrumentation Engineering Discipline (preferably chartered status)
Strong project engineering and technical background in Instrument discipline
Demonstrable experience of managing and delivering small to medium scaled multi-disciplined projects
Knowledge & experience of fire and gas and metering systems would be beneficial
Knowledge & experience of control systems would be beneficial
Knowledge & experience of field instrument commissioning would be beneficial
Knowledge & experience of FAT/SAT
Extensive Engineering & Maintenance experience Oil & Gas, Petro-Chemical or other regulated industry
Demonstrable understanding of other engineering disciplines such as Electrical, Mechanical, Piping, Static Vessels, Civil, Asset Integrity and Rotating Equipment
Familiarity with relevant legislative requirements, CDM, Temporary Works, ATEX, Electricity at Work Regs etc
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Flexible and adaptable, demonstrating a positive “can do” approach to work
Ability to function well within a team environment
Demonstrable leadership skills and experience
Effective time and workload manager
Ability to use Microsoft packages
