Position: EAL Teaching Assistant
Location: Secondary School in Tameside
Start Date: January 2025
A diverse and welcoming secondary school in Tameside is searching for a compassionate and patient EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teaching Assistant to start in January 2025. In this role, you’ll play a key role in supporting students who are new to English, helping them develop language skills and confidence to fully engage with school life.
Responsibilities:
* Language and Literacy Support: Provide small group and one-on-one sessions to support English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, using structured exercises to build vocabulary and comprehension.
* Academic Assistance: Help students understand and complete assignments in various subjects, ensuring they can access the curriculum and successfully participate in classroom activities.
* Promote Cultural Integration: Assist EAL students in adjusting to a new cultural and educational environment, fostering a sense of belonging and celebrating cultural diversity within the school.
* Track Language Development: Regularly assess and monitor each student’s language progress, communicating with teachers and EAL coordinators to adapt support strategies as needed.
Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will have experience working with EAL students or a background in language education. Essential qualities include patience, cultural sensitivity, and strong communication skills. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
