GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated ASD Teacher to work with secondary-aged students in one of our client schools in Newcastle. This role is ideal for a teacher who is passionate about supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and has a track record of fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Job Summary:
As an ASD Teacher (Secondary), you will be responsible for planning and delivering tailored lessons to meet the individual needs of students with ASD. You will play a key role in creating a supportive and structured classroom environment, ensuring that each student is able to progress academically and socially in line with their personalised learning plan.
Key Responsibilities for ASD Teacher (Secondary):
* Plan, prepare, and deliver differentiated lessons that address the needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
* Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and work closely with SENCOs, support staff, and parents to ensure each student's progress.
* Employ strategies to manage sensory, social, and communication difficulties in the classroom.
* Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social skills and independence.
* Use a range of teaching methods to engage students and help them access the curriculum effectively.
* Regularly assess and report on student progress, adapting lesson plans as necessary.
* Work collaboratively with support staff and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student care and development.
* Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, ensuring adherence to safeguarding procedures.
Essential Requirements for ASD Teacher (Secondary):
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
* Proven experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the secondary level.
* In-depth knowledge of Autism and strategies to support students with a range of needs.
* Additional qualifications or training in SEN, Autism, or behaviour management.
* Experience working in a specialist setting or with students who have complex needs.
* Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to adapt to students' behavioural and sensory challenges.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with students, staff, and parents.
* A valid DBS registered on the Update Service or a willingness to apply for one.
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
