Main duties of the job
University Hospitals Sussex (UHS) places immense value on its Aseptic pharmacy team, which has steadily grown in both strength and size over the years. We are delighted to announce an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Technician to join our well-established team of dedicated professionals.
The job holder must be a registered Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician who will need to be able to work with members of the cross-site pharmacy aseptic services team and other stakeholders. Aseptic duties are to be carried out in line with the aseptic unit standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide assistance in the provision of pharmacy aseptic services at Worthing Hospital for patients within the Trust including: line management of staff, organization of day-to-day activities, preparation of cytotoxic products, worksheet and label preparation and monitoring of the environment.
Main Responsibilities:
* Participate in coordinating the activities for the aseptic unit, managing staff placement and ensuring safe working practices within the unit.
* Ensure that aseptic duties are carried out according to national standards.
* Work towards achieving regional/national accreditations e.g. Pre and In Process Checking (PIPC) and Product Approval Accreditation Programme (PAAP).
* Act as a role model and provide a positive mentoring experience for new and junior staff.
* Act as line manager for designated member(s) of staff taking responsibility for performance review and objective setting in line with Trust policies.
Person specification
Experience and Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent BTEC in pharmaceutical Science or completion of Science Manufacturing Process Operative Level 2 apprenticeship.
* Significant experience working in a hospital pharmacy.
* Significant experience of working within a pharmacy aseptic unit.
* Pre and In Process Checking (PIPC) Accreditation or equivalent or fulfills requirements for undertaking regional course.
* Nationally accredited Product Approval Checking Technician.
* Educational Supervisor.
Specific Requirements
* Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC or registered as a Science Manufacturing Technician through an appropriate industry body.
Skills
* Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of aseptic unit procedures and systems.
* Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of pharmacy dispensing procedures and systems.
* Experience of staff management.
People Management and Development
* Efficient line management of Technical team.
* Able to implement SOPs and suggest changes to working and training practices.
Freedom to Act
* High level of motivation and initiative.
