The role
The post of Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering will contribute to extending the research profile of Engineering at Exeter, particularly in areas related or complementary to mechanobiology, and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The University welcomes applications which build on Exeter’s internationally recognised research strengths in this area and face our research and teaching needs within the department.
The position of Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering will be based in the Biomedical Engineering Group led by Prof Tim Holsgrove. The group is part of the Engineering department, led by Professor Ion Sucala (www.exeter.ac.uk/engineering). Engineering currently has over 100 academic staff across our Exeter (Streatham) and Cornwall (Penryn) campuses. Academics in the Biomedical Engineering Group have particular expertise in using multi-disciplinary approaches to investigate injury and degeneration of the musculoskeletal system, and the development of novel methods to evaluate new treatments and interventions.

Main duties
* To fulfil research, teaching and administration duties as Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering.
* To support the Engineering Department in extending the profile of this research area by attracting and supervising exceptional postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate research students, contributing towards the winning of significant research income, and by undertaking elements of the day-to-day running of undergraduate and postgraduate.
* To collaborate with colleagues both within the Faculty and the University of Exeter as a whole to develop and support the groups research programmes and other research.
* To contribute to the general operation of the faculty as a member of its academic team.
About you
The successful applicant will have an independent research programme that will strengthen and complement the existing team at the University. They will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics:
* A PhD or equivalent in Engineering or other relevant subject.
* Sufficient knowledge in subject area to develop teaching and research programmes.
* A demonstrable potential to attract research funding.
* A track record of excellent publications in recognised journals.
* The aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning.
* Enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to teach modules in Electrical Engineering and more widely, as required.
* A track record of attracting research collaboration with industrial partners.
* The ability and enthusiasm for supervising and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
* The attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development.
* Teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing members of the Engineering department, as well as colleagues in the wider Faculty.
* An active and supportive approach to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally with other educational bodies, professional institutions and industry.
* Involvement in projects which develop impact.
* An understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture.
