Job Overview
As a HCPC registered Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist based on our Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at Trafford General Hospital, you will be part of a large multi-disciplinary team working on the only level 2a Neuro-Rehab unit in Greater Manchester.
You will work clinically to support the assessment and delivery of rehabilitation to our patients, and also support their discharge and complex case management.
You will have a role in the senior leadership team on the unit supporting service development and improvements alongside providing leadership to the Occupational Therapists on the team.
Main Duties of the Job
We're looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapist with experience of working in neuro-rehabilitation at Band 6 level and above.
You should have proven skills in neurological occupational therapy including:
1. Knowledge and experience of assessing and treating cognition, vision and spasticity.
2. In-depth knowledge of the mental capacity act and complex discharge planning.
3. Skills in acute neurological management and rehabilitation and multidisciplinary working.
4. Experience of complex discharge planning within the NHS.
5. Strong leadership skills are essential to complement your advanced occupational therapy knowledge and skills.
You will be required to co-ordinate and monitor the activity and caseload demands on the unit, provide evidence-based training within the MDT and support junior therapists in the team to ensure high quality care.
You will provide support to the OT team through supervision, appraisal and teaching. You will be supported in your role by the Therapy Clinical Lead and receive regular supervision.
The neurorehabilitation therapy team is ward-based and made up of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Neuropsychologists and Rehabilitation Assistants who work closely with nursing and medical colleagues to deliver excellent neurological rehabilitation.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Recognised BSC Honours degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
* Completion of validated/nationally professionally recognised postgraduate specialist courses and ongoing relevant postgraduate training.
* State registration via Health and Care Professions Council
* Member of relevant specialist clinical interest group
* Clinical Educators course
* Registered member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy
* Completion of a basic management course
* Audit and Research training to a postgraduate level

* Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
* Good organisational/planning/prioritisation skills
* Ability to motivate and negotiate to encourage reluctant and challenging patients
