About the Opportunity
Our client is looking for a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager with a strong background in the mechanical manufacturing industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Market Research & Business Strategy: Conduct market research to identify potential clients and business opportunities. Analyze industry trends, competitors, and market conditions to inform business strategy. Develop and implement business development strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.
2. Lead Generation & Client Acquisition: Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the mechanical manufacturing sector. Develop leads through networking, attending industry events, and leveraging existing relationships. Build strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders in target companies, including engineers, procurement teams, and executives.
3. Sales & Contract Negotiation: Present proposals to client needs. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to close deals that are favorable for both the client and the company. Collaborate with internal teams for pricing strategies based on client/project background.
4. Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, providing exceptional customer service. Foster long-term relationships with customers to encourage repeat business and referrals. Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure satisfaction and to identify additional opportunities.
5. Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with the marketing and product development teams to ensure alignment in promotional activities and product offerings. Collaborate with the engineering team to tailor manufacturing solutions that meet client specifications and technical requirements. Report regularly to senior management on business development progress, KPIs, and sales forecasts.
6. Financial Analysis & Reporting: Prepare and present business development reports, including forecasts, budgets, and sales performance analysis. Track sales and business development metrics to measure progress against goals. Assist in setting revenue targets and help ensure that these targets are met or exceeded.
7. Networking & Industry Presence: Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and networking opportunities to enhance the company’s visibility. Build and maintain a professional network within the mechanical manufacturing industry.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering &/or Business Administration, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (5+ years) in business development or sales in the mechanical manufacturing industry if above qualification is not available.
3. Willingness to travel as required for client meetings and industry events regularly in England, especially Southern Scotland (very rare).
4. Strong understanding of electro-mechanical lifting products would be ideal.
5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to identify and close new business opportunities.
7. Experience with contract negotiation, pricing strategies, and proposal writing.
8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
9. Strong financial acumen, including the ability to develop sales forecasts and manage budgets.
10. Proficiency in Sales Force, MS Office, Syspro (not mandatory).
