An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Senior Health Care Assistant.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team in the Dixon Unit, located in Worthing. This satellite unit specializes in renal haemodialysis, operating Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 22:00, serving 62 patients weekly.
You will work in a specialized setting, providing high-quality care to patients with acute and chronic renal failure, and will take on extended roles related to this specialization. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team are essential.
Previous healthcare experience is required, and an NVQ Level 3 qualification is desirable. Due to the specialized nature of the unit, an informal visit is highly recommended.
Main duties of the job
1. Implement and contribute to patient treatment and care programs, mainly Haemodialysis, as delegated by a registered healthcare practitioner, and report progress.
2. Supervise and assist with individual or group patient therapy sessions, including minor modifications within prescribed parameters.
3. Participate actively in the healthcare team, organize daily tasks, engage in ongoing training, and contribute to the efficient running of the service.
4. Provide supervision and coordination of junior staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Adhere to unit protocols and policies, including intravenous device management and cannulation.
2. Monitor and record patient vital signs accurately, report abnormalities, and participate in assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient care.
3. Understand aseptic techniques, procure and send clinical specimens, and assist medical staff with procedures.
4. Have a basic understanding of renal disease, dietary and fluid requirements, and inform the nurse of any hazards or issues.
5. Understand the haemodialysis process and equipment, initiate and terminate treatments, and troubleshoot complications under supervision.
6. Update patient records using renal databases such as CV5 and Diamant systems.
Person specification
Qualifications and experience
* Minimum 6 months experience as a Healthcare Assistant.
* Care certificate or NVQ Level 2.
* NVQ Level 3.
* Experience in Haemodialysis.
* Cannulation and venepuncture skills.
