Position Details Location: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire Hours: 09:00 – 16:00, Monday – Friday Salary: £83-£90/day (inclusive of 12.07% holiday pay) Contract: Temp to Perm Your Role as a SEN Teaching Assistant As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement individual education and care plans based on the SPELL framework. Your role will focus on helping students engage with the curriculum, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a structured and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities Provide specialist support to students with autism and other complex needs to help them achieve their full potential. Assist in implementing Personalised Learning Outcomes (PLOs), behaviour support profiles, risk assessments, and communication plans. Use non-confrontational and non-directive approaches to support students effectively. Help students access the curriculum by adapting materials and resources to meet individual needs. Maintain daily records of student progress, contributing to individual assessments and reviews. Promote best practice safeguarding arrangements and ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Support students with personal care, therapy sessions, and daily routines, as required. Supervise and engage students during breaks, educational visits, and extracurricular activities. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure holistic support. Assist with classroom organisation and preparation to create a structured and engaging learning environment. Skills & Requirements Essential Experience working with children with autism, ADHD, PDA, OCD, or complex needs. A compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting students with SEN. Strong ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents. Ability to work in a non-confrontational and non-directive manner. Understanding of child development, autism, and safeguarding principles. A relevant Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience). GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C or equivalent). Desirable Experience working in a specialist SEN setting. Knowledge of the National Curriculum and strategies for differentiation. Familiarity with the SPELL framework and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches. Experience working with external professionals, such as therapists and psychologists.
