The applicant must hold Full GMC Registration and have MRCPath qualification. It is essential they have the competencies to work as a Clinical Microbiologist with experience of working independently both within hours and OOH. Be competent in conducting bench rounds and ward rounds and be able to contribute to infection diagnosis and management service. Be able to demonstrate their competencies in dealing with day to day infection control issues and also some experience of dealing with common outbreaks like Norovirus or Covid outbreaks. Be able to help with antimicrobial stewardship for all antibiotic use whilst in post. Results validations, liaison with clinical teams and GPs via telephone calls is also part of this role.
In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit. Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee., The appointee will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective clinical Microbiology, Virology and Infection Prevention and Control service to the Trust and other users of the service. This post is part of a drive to improve and consolidate infection services within the Trust. We are currently reviewing the delivery of our service, aiming to promote greater flexibility and closer integration between Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Your allocation of duties and responsibilities will depend upon your personal preferences taking into account your clinical interests, experience and the demands of the work in the department. The appointee will be expected to develop specialist expertise in one or more relevant areas, relating to his or her interests, to complement the skills of the other consultants and help to deliver the service accommodating the day-to-day needs of the Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control services.
Consultants in Microbiology are expected to attend regular departmental meetings including the Senior Staff meeting and the Clinical Governance Meeting.
