Based in Seaham Harbour Activity Centre, they deliver activities in Seaham, throughout County Durham & further afield.
Adventure Access pride themselves on providing high quality sessions for all their customers in a range of craft out on the water. They are a busy watersports company that runs kayaking and paddle-boarding sessions from their coastal base in Seaham, also providing Dragon Boating, Open Canoeing, and Paddle Boarding from their site in Durham City.

We now have a fantastic opportunity to join Adventure Access at Seaham Harbour as a Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor. They are a fast-growing centre with a great team of staff. Located on the coast of Seaham, this is a fabulous opportunity in a beautiful location where during the summer months you'll enjoy some fantastic conditions on the sea, including incredible sunrises on their sunrise and breakfast sessions.
In this apprenticeship your main duties will include:
* Work with the centre manager and lead instructors to deliver high quality water sports sessions.
* Hand out and fit equipment such as buoyancy aids, helmets, and wetsuits.
* Help to clean the equipment, changing rooms, office, and classroom.
* Answer emails and inquiries in the office and help deal with bookings.
* Work with the team to come up with contingency plans if the conditions don’t allow us to run our original activities safely.
* Learn to plan sessions and deliver them with the help of lead instructors and the centre manager.
* Work with the team to help move equipment between sites.
* Undertake other reasonable duties as may be required by Adventure Access Management.

Hours of Work: 30 hours a week on average. More hours from April to October (up to 45 hours a week - max 9 hours per day). Reduced hours from November to March (16 hours a week - may be split over multiple days e.g. 4 hours a day). You will work across weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays.
Pay rate: the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices.
Entry requirements
You must be 18 years of age to apply for this apprenticeship.
A driving licence is required.
Applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in outdoor instructing as a career choice.
GCSE grades of 4 or above in Maths and English would be desirable.

Training to be Provided
1-2-1 teaching and observations; A training specialist will coach, teach, and support the apprentice at the centre on a one-to-one basis, visiting at regular and agreed intervals.
Face-to-face teaching as a group; Block delivery throughout the year with other apprentices in the area. The teaching location will be at a central point to those on the apprenticeship in the area.
Apprentices will be offered regular 1-2-1 tutorial time remotely with their specialist trainer.
E-learning; We provide an e-learning platform with work and activities for apprentices to complete.
Things to consider
Please note that accommodation is not provided with this role, and you would need to hold a driving licence. Candidates must live in the area and be able to drive and arrive at the Centre in either Seaham or Durham for an 8 am start.
Future Prospects
Potential freelance work or seasonal employment with Adventure Access after completion of the apprenticeship. On completion, Outdoor Activity Instructors may be eligible to apply to be Registered Members of the Institute for Outdoor Learning to support their career development and progression.
