Assistant Estate Manager (12 month Maternity Cover)
Scampston Estate is a family run, modern rural estate (see www.scampston.co.uk) with a diverse portfolio of businesses including an award-winning visitor attraction, farming, residential property, agricultural property, a luxury holiday lodge park, park events and others. The Estate Office is located at Scampston Hall, one of North Yorkshire’s finest regency houses, just a few miles from the picturesque town of Malton and easily accessible just off the A64.
We are seeking a friendly and positive candidate for this temporary full-time role who is self-motivated, organised, efficient and able to take on many varied projects and tasks. Your main duties will be to oversee the operation of the wider Estate with support from an office administrator, and reporting to the Estate Owner.
This is a terrific opportunity for the right candidate to gain invaluable experience of a dynamic rural business, and you will be involved in all aspects from strategic decision making to day-to-day operations.
Summary of Responsibilities
The main responsibilities will include:
* Maintenance: Overseeing and managing the maintenance across the Estate’s property portfolio, listed buildings and grounds including Scampston Hall, farmhouses, cottages, gardens and Conservatory. Including the engagement of contractors, supervision of works and managing maintenance schedule.
* Residential: day to day running of the property portfolio, including property refurbishments, letting property, debt collections, tenant issues and complaints.
* Agricultural tenants: management of a combination of AHA & FBT tenants across the Estate ensuring tenancy compliance, rent collection, maintenance etc.
* Commercial management: Work alongside the Estate Owner on commercial projects alongside day-to-day management of rent collection, tenant issues and compliance.
* Staff management: day to day supervision of maintenance staff and administrative assistant to ensure efficient running of the estate. Including diary management.
* Budgets: Carrying out works in line with budgets provided by the Finance Manager.
* Health & Safety: Support for wider Estate staff to upkeep Health and Safety records and action processes.
* Contractors: Supervise contractors and maintain good working relationships.
* Land Management: Management and record keeping of the Estate environmental stewardship scheme in line with the options adopted.
* Woodland Management: Managing the execution of the woodland management plan, wholesale of Christmas trees and tree safety inspections alongside external contractors and the Landscape & Conservation Manager.
* Lodges: Ensure timely response and maintain good relationships with Lodge owners, alongside the Estate Manager.
* Legislation: Keep up to date with current and relevant legislation across the Estate portfolio, ensuring compliance throughout e.g. EPC’s, insurance requirements etc.
* Look out for suitable grant opportunities that might be suitable for the Estate and progress as required.
* Insurance: Together with the Finance Manager review, amend and manage the Insurance cover across the Estate.
* General ad hoc support for the Estate Owner.
Qualities, Skills & Experience
We are seeking an exceptional candidate with the following attributes:
* Previous experience in a similar role
* Ability to manage people effectively and work well as part of a team
* Excellent IT skills, especially Microsoft Excel
* A proven multi-tasker who is organised, efficient and productive as well as being accurate and having great attention to detail
* Ability to work on your own initiative and research problems
* Confident and professional in dealing with both external and internal parties
* Be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances or priorities within the organisation and have a positive and willing attitude to any potential changes and challenges
Job type: Temporary 12-month maternity cover, full-time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Flexible with exact working hours, but ideally between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
